If you’ve never picked up “The Goon” for a solid Sunday read, you should head to the local comic book store (the one where the owner won’t let you thumb through the pages because it makes them “used”) and pick up the entire series immediately. Actually, volumes 0-3 should be enough for now, but make sure the gas tank is full because you’ll be heading back to the store soon.

There’s zombies and skunk-apes and it’s fantastic.

News of a film featuring the beloved characters has been around for quite some time, but a very cool teaser trailer made especially for Comic-Con is the first solid proof (beyond a few pieces of concept art) that the film is barreling its way down throats and out back ends. It will be soon enough.

Grab a slice of pie and check out the footage:

The new champion of the people, cinematographer par example Wally Pfister is fresh off of Inception and ready to leap into action with the heaviest cameras possible for Batman 3. As a true champion of the people, he doesn’t want to do the film in 3D (most likely because it’s a gimmick that will die out of its current fad phase any year now (our words, not his)).

However, Pfister did call 3D “phony” during a recent interview and went on to claim that he wants to do the entirety of Batman 3 in beautiful, soaring IMAX.

Considering the limitations of the camera, this would be a great challenge for the crew, but with great challenges come great responsibility or something, and, Holy Hell, just do it already. The IMAX scenes from The Dark Knight are outstanding, and seeing a full movie that way would shove a glasses-less reality into audience’s faces. [Collider]

If you’ve been keeping track, we are miles away from those little boxes on the hillside. Nancy and the gang have gotten just about as deep into trouble as you could possibly get, but now they’re in for even more in the sixth season of “Weeds.” Who knew a plucky little show about a housewife selling pot would be so popular?

Everyone with a crush on Mary Louise Parker, that’s who.

There’s some big changes in the lives of our fearless dealers who have to deal with the consequence of their actions from the finale of last season. That should be easy enough.

Stop bogarting that stuff, say hello to the Newmans and check out the new trailer for the new season:

A bunch of set photos have been sneaked from the very clutches of the Chicago shoot for Transformers 3: The Search for More Money. There was also the longest news story of the year in which Megan Fox was fired, followed by 12 stories a day confirming, then questioning, then re-confirming that a Victoria’s Secret model had taken her place.

The movie doesn’t come out for another year, and although Michael Bay is notorious for keeping things under wraps, there’s already been a sickening amount of information and media spat out upon the face of the internet.

Are you already tired of it?

If you haven’t thrown up at the mere sight of the title, read more to check out said set photos and a video where you can’t actually see anyone doing any stunts!

Poet Sylvia Plath’s only novel (which she wrote under a pen name) is a tragic descent into depression that stands as a parallel to the author’s own life. It would be an excruciating subject matter to explore. In fact, Plath committed suicide just after the first print run.

However, Julia Stiles is staring that psychological pressure down by signing on to produce and star in The Bell Jar.

By starring, she’ll take on the role of Esther Greenwood, and she’ll be joined by Virginia Madsen who will play Dr. Nolan – the female therapist Greenwood sees after unsuccessful sessions with a male psychiatrist. Nicole Kassell (who directed The Woodsman and is directing a movie where Whoopi Goldberg plays God) will be directing.

There’s no way that this thing doesn’t pass the Bechdel Test. [IndieWire]

There’s not much that warms our cold, cold hearts here at FSR, but whenever we get emails from our friends abroad who can’t watch trailers or rent movies we lovingly suggest, a little piece of us dies because sharing a love of film is what it’s all about.

Fortunately, you can sound your victory trumpets because sharing that love just got easier, and it’s now ribbed for your pleasure.

Movie rental overlords at Netflix have decided to conquer Canada after laying siege to Blockbuster. While the company won’t offer rentals by-mail (because it costs and arm and a loony to mail things up there), they will be offering the far superior Watch Instantly option which will continue to expand (and will probably be the only service offered in a few year’s time).

Huzzah! Congratulations, Canada. Welcome to Never Going To Your Job Again.

There’s is no telling what Drive Angry 3D is about. At its barest, it involves a revenge concept with Nicolas Cage being crazy (and revengy). The rumors paint it as a beast of a movie that might be a kinetic meltdown or a version of Bad Lieutenant that’s been stabbed in the chest with an adrenaline needle.

Fortunately, none of the concept art for it makes any sense in that context. It’s beautiful and eerie, but it looks a bit like a world where Max Rockatansky started worshiping the devil.

See for yourself after the jump. (And remember to Jump Angry.)

On the one hand, Tim Burton directing an adaptation of a board game that is an adaptation of monster movies in general might be seen with incredible cynicism. Without looking into a crystal ball, you might already see the Gothic tones, the text reading “Starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter” plastering the poster, and you might already hear the same score from Danny Elfman.

On the other hand, a few small details might make you optimistic.

As you might guess, this entire article is full of spoilers for Inception, so if you haven’t seen it, go see it before reading any of this. We’ll wait.

When the first trailers for Inception debuted, it had people asking what it was all about. Now that the film has hit theaters, it has people asking what it’s all about. As the antidote for the mindless action flick – yet staying tucked away in the world of the accessible – Christopher Nolan has created an intense work of art that promises to prompt theories well into the next decade.

What follows is three different explanations for the film. You can decide how correct any or all of them are.

The typical rule for a studio is that when a film bombs, it doesn’t get a sequel. Fortunately for everyone on the planet with eyeballs, Capcom is not a film studio, and they don’t have to play by the rules.

After the gut-wrenchingly bad showing that was The Legend of Chun Li, the fine folks over at Capcom have proclaimed that instead of lying back in the sweet arms of defeat, they’ll jump back up and start swinging again for everyone’s amusement.

Fingers crossed that they team up with Asylum.

In the middle of a summer filled with both underperforming event films and 3D CGI powerhouses, there are still smaller movies worth checking out. Rolling out in limited release is Winter’s Bone, the winner of this year’s Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic Film at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

Director Debra Granik took some time to site down with Film School Rejects to discuss the development, filming and release of this intimate film about a girl trying to save her home in the Ozarks after her father apparently skips bail.
